Program(s) Name and Description: Computer Information Systems

To help students make educated decisions regarding their program of study, Chesapeake College is required to provide additional information beyond a program description of an academic program that leads to gainful employment, primarily certificate programs. Below is information about estimated cost of a program, including the estimated cost of books, median loan debt of students who completed the program, the number of credits/semesters for completion based on full-time status and a cross-walk is provided with information regarding potential employment options upon completion of this certificate program. For more detailed academic information regarding courses, pre-requisites and course offerings, students should consult our college catalog.

There are multiple certificates available.

Educational Technology: The Educational Technology certificate is designed to meet the needs of classroom teachers who want to apply technology to the learning process and/or for individuals wishing to develop leadership skills as site-based technology coordinators. The Educational Technology certificate is intended to develop a broad range of technological expertise while at the same time focusing clearly on the new way that technology is changing how students and educators create and understand knowledge. Participants in the program will learn the new role of information, not as isolated facts but as building blocks to develop cognitive skills. Students should consult with an academic advisor in planning an appropriate program. Admission is limited to those holding a current Maryland State Teaching Certificate.   

Interactive Media and Web Design: The Basic Certificate in Interactive Media and Web Design is designed to provide knowledge of basic skills for entry level employment. The Advanced Certificate in Interactive Media and Web Design provides students with courses specializing in web page design that will enable them to function successfully as web designers. Students will be exposed to current state-of-the-art software applications and an understanding of hypertext markup language programming.  

Microcomputer Applications: The Basic Certificate in Microcomputer Applications Specialist is designed to provide knowledge of basic skills for entry-level employment. The Advanced Certificate in Microcomputer Applications Specialist provides the student with the opportunity to develop proficiency in software applications commonly used on microcomputers. Students will be exposed to all phases of microcomputer operations to enable them to function successfully as a "one-person" computing operation in a small business environment.  

Network Management: The Advanced Certificate in Network Management provides the student with the opportunity to acquire familiarity with microcomputer networking hardware and software to become network administrators.
