To help students make educated decisions regarding their program of study, Chesapeake College is required to provide additional information beyond a program description of an academic program that leads to gainful employment, primarily certificate programs. Below is information about estimated cost of a program, including the estimated cost of books, median loan debt of students who completed the program, the number of credits/semesters for completion based on full-time status and a cross-walk is provided with information regarding potential employment options upon completion of this certificate program. For more detailed academic information regarding courses, pre-requisites and course offerings, students should consult our college catalog.

The Early Childhood Development certificate program was designed to provide comprehensive training for paraprofessionals already employed either in child care agencies or in the primary grades of school, for parents who want to learn more about the growth and needs of their children, and for students who are interested in joining the field of early childhood development. The Early Childhood Development certificate program is designed to prepare those presently employed as child care staff in either centers or family child care facilities with comprehensive training to update and enhance their competencies to meet Maryland State Department of Education requirements. In addition, the program provides an opportunity for students interested in joining the field of early childhood education as teacher aides. Students who successfully complete the Basic Certificate program are eligible to continue in the Associate of Applied Science Degree or in the Elementary Education - Early Childhood Education AAT Degree programs.
