Gifted and Talented Program
Chesapeake's Gifted and Talented program is designed for eligible students under the age of 16 who have been identified as having exceptional academic or fine arts talent who desire enrollment in academic or fine arts subjects not available at their schools. Youth selected for this program are not yet recipients of a high school diploma or a GED, and do not meet the grade-level or age requirements for the Dual Enrollment program.
Nominees for the Gifted and Talented program are screened by the Gifted and Talented Team comprised of the Dean for Recruitment Services; Student Success and Enrollment Services professional staff; and related academic department faculty. An interview with the program candidate and his/her parent will be arranged.
Fine arts students may be asked to audition or to present a portfolio of their work. Final decisions regarding admissions and course selection are made by the Gifted and Talented Team. Admitted students will be allowed to enroll in a maximum of two daytime courses per fall and spring, and one daytime course in summer. Continuance will be dependent upon satisfactory performance in all previous semesters.
