Chesapeake College Athletic Scholarships

Purpose
Chesapeake College offers scholarships to deserving student athletes based upon their academic and athletic potential along with demonstrated financial need. Scholarships are awarded to student athletes with the approval of the athletic director. No public funds are used to cover scholarship costs - all scholarship funds are privately raised for that express purpose.

Scholarship aid is currently generated by the following scholarship funds:

Current Scholarship Funds

Chesapeake College Athletic Hall of Fame members Dave Haslup, left, and Mike Butler both serve on the Dave Haslup/Lou Gehrig Foundation Board of Directors.

Dave Haslup/Lou Gehrig Foundation Scholarship Fund
Dave Haslup, a three-sport standout inducted into the Chesapeake College Athletic Hall of Fame as a charter member in 2003, has Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (commonly know as Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Dave chose to redirect his energies to live every day to the fullest and give back to the community that supports him so completely. The result is the Dave Haslup/Lou Gehrig Athletic Scholarship Foundation, formed by Dave and Liz Haslup to support Talbot County youth athletic organizations and activities. The foundation also provides scholarships to local athletes who attend Chesapeake College, and to support various ALS organizations devoted to research and support of patients and families.

Chesapeake College Golf Tournament Scholarship Fund
The proceeds of the annual Chesapeake College Golf Tournament are used to fund athletic scholarships. Scholarship funds from this source may be used to cover tuition, fees, books, and/or housing expenses to help defray student athlete expenses.

Robert E. McCauley Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was established in 2003 by the Kent Island American Legion Post 278 in memory of member Robert E. McCauley. It is intended to support direct educational expenses of student athletes and is renewable for a second year of study. Selection is made by the Athletic Scholarship Committee.
