’Jacks’ Delawter named first-team all-Region XX
Archie, Kelch selected to second team; Delawter and Archie are all-state
Chesapeake College’s Will Delawter was selected to the NJCAA Division II All-Region XX baseball first team, and teammates Anthony Archie and Mike Kelch were selected for the second team.
Delawter, who was a third-team all-American last year, hit .378 with 43 runs batted in and a team-high eight home runs this spring for the Skipjacks (30-15-1). For his career the first baseman/outfielder hit .383 while driving in 96 runs and scoring 94 times. He also compiled a 4-6 career record as a pitcher.
"Will gave us outstanding production, effort and commitment," said Chesapeake head coach Frank Szymanski. "We’re going to miss him."
Archie, a first baseman/designated hitter, led the team in batting average (.392), RBI (56), and doubles (19) while tying Brad Brainer for the team lead in runs scored (53). Kelch, who has already accepted a scholarship offer from Division I Temple University, hit .353 with 31 RBI and 41 runs.
"Arch just had a great sophomore year. His numbers really shot up, and he was a team leader," said Szymanski. "Mike worked hard and improved every day. All three Will, Arch, and Mike are going to be hard to replace."
Archie, who tied for seventh place in the conference in RBI, and Delawater also made the all-Maryland JuCo second team.
