CCBC-Catonsville uses four-run third to take command of contest
CATONSVILLE League-leading CCBC-Catonsville used a four-run third inning to break a 1-1 tie on the way to a 10-2 victory over Chesapeake College Wednesday night in a baseball conference showdown.
CCBC-Catonsville (24-14 overall, 14-4 Maryland JuCo) and Anne Arundel Community College (19-17, 13-4) are currently tied in the loss column atop the Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference standings, one game ahead of the Skipjacks (26-14, 11-5) and two in front of Montgomery College Germantown (19-11, 15-6).
Roland Haskins’ sacrifice fly put Catonsville ahead and Brett Steele’s two-run double capped the third-inning explosion off Chesapeake starter Evan Ford. Ford struck out 12 while allowing 10 hits and hitting two batters over seven innings.
Catonsville starting pitcher Chris Merrick allowed four hits with two walks and a hit batsman while striking out four.
Brad Brainer was 2-for-3 with a double and a solo home run to lead Chesapeake.
