´Jacks continue playoff push by beating Rockville
Bell leads Chesapeake to 10th victory in last 14 contests
WYE MILLS, February 11 The playoff push continued in earnest Friday night as Chesapeake College´s men´s basketball team beat Montgomery College/Rockville, 76-64.
The Skipjacks (14-9 overall, 10-6 league) won for the 10th time in their last 14 games as Daniel Bell scored a team-high 19 points. They used the victory to strengthen their grasp on a first-round home game in the upcoming Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference tournament.
"The loss to Hagerstown (two days earlier) made this a game we had to win," said Chesapeake head coach Dale Becraft, whose squad started the week in sixth place with the top eight teams earning first-round playoff games. "Ideally, we´d like to finish seventh so we don´t end up with the potential of a second-round game against the regular-season champion (most likely Cecil Community College)."
The Skipjacks are scheduled to play at Baltimore City Community College Monday in their final league contest and would probably finish no worse than seventh with a win.
Ryon Rabon and Hubert King added 17 points each for the Skipjacks, who built a 32-19 halftime lead against cold-shooting Rockville (11-12, 7-7). Mookie Pierre scored 15 points to pace Rockville.
