Chesapeake starts fast, beats Mercyhurst North East College
Pettiford checks in with 23 points, 12 rebounds as Skipjacks move to 5-2
WYE MILLS Chesapeake College’s women’s basketball team used a fast start in its home opener to defeated Mercyhurst (Pa.) North East College, 76-54, last Saturday.
The Skipjacks (5-2) bolted to a 31-15 halftime lead and never looked back in winning their second straight game. Kiki Pettiford scored 23 points and pulled down 12 rebounds while Kyra Ringgold finished with 19 points and eight rebounds to key the victory.
Fatima Calloway scored 13 points, and Irene Turner chipped in seven points and nine rebounds.
Chesapeake committed only 16 turnovers to 33 for Mercyhurst, which was another key to the win.
"That’s been the difference the last two ballgames," said Chesapeake head coach Lowell Shaw. "I don’t know that we have a true point guard this year, but we have a lot of people who can handle the ball. We also have enough quickness that no one has been able to successfully press us so far this season."
