Skipjack women win again
Chesapeake College holds off Harford, 63-52
WYE MILLS – Irene Turner scored 25 points and pulled down 14 rebounds Tuesday night to lead Chesapeake College past Harford Community College, 63-52, as the Skipjacks (6-2) won their third straight women’s basketball game.
"That was Irene’s best game of the year," said Chesapeake head coach Lowell Shaw, whose Skipjacks have won four of their past five contests. "She was scoring from the inside and also hit three 3-pointers."
Kyra Ringgold (17 points, six rebounds, six steals) and Jady Bell (12 points) joined Turner in double figures. Bell played the entire 40 minutes for the Skipjacks, who only dressed six for Tuesday’s contest. Ebone Alsup added eight points and Yaasmiyn Finlayson pulled down six rebounds.
Charlene Lewis did a little bit of everything for the Skipjacks. She scored three points and added nine rebounds and five steals.
"Charlene played a great floor game – she really controlled the tempo for us," said Shaw.
"Our full-court pressure caused them (Harford) problems," added Shaw. "The pressure really helped us maintain the lead throughout the game."
Marie Fox scored a team-high 16 points for Harford.
Chesapeake hosts Anne Arundel Community College Friday night at 6 p.m.
