Corriveau sparks Skipjacks in Germantown sweep
Chesapeake, winner of six straight, improves record to 17-6-1
WYE MILLS – J.J. Corriveau singled twice, scored once and drove in two runs as the Skipjacks defeated Montgomery College/Germantown, 6-4, to complete a doubleheader sweep Thursday and run their winning streak to six games.
Chesapeake College (17-6-1 overall, 9-3 league) has swept consecutive league doubleheaders from Harford, Anne Arundel and Germantown. The Skipjacks play a non-conference game at Region XX rival Potomac State College Saturday and then play a Sunday doubleheader at Garrett College, which counts in both the state and regional standings.
Corriveau singled, stole second and scored on a Mike Liddell double as part of a two-run first inning that included a run-scoring sacrifice fly by Andrew Markey. Corriveau's two-out, second-inning single plated two more runs to stake the Skipjacks to a 4-0 lead.
Evan Ford was the winning pitcher, allowing four hits and two walks with four strikeouts while pitching the last four innings in relief of Ben Newport. Newport had five strikeouts while yielding a run on four hits and two walks in three innings.
Chesapeake 10, MC/Germantown 2
WYE MILLS – Andrew Markey and J.T. Gregory each went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Tony Mitchell (2-for-3) drove in three runs to pace the Skipjacks in Thursday's opener.
Chris Custer was the winning pitcher, allowing just one run on one hit over six innings. He struck out five and walked four. Greg Snyder pitched the seventh, allowing two runs on a hit, a walk and a hit batsman.
Losing pitcher Nick Franceski gave up 10 hits and four walks in four-plus innings. He was knocked out of the game during Chesapeake's four-run fifth inning, highlighted by J.V. Herbert's two-run double, as the Skipjacks took a 9-0 lead.
