Skipjacks split doubleheader with Harford
Wright sparks Chesapeake in opener; Owls’ Cooley dominates nightcap

WYE MILLS – Jordan Wright (3-3) pitched a complete-game four-hitter and had a fifth-inning, walk-off single that invoked the eight-run mercy rule Wednesday as the Skipjacks won the first game on the way to a doubleheader split with Harford Community College.

Wright, who struck out seven and walked three, went 3-for-4 at the plate with a stolen base.

Anna Morris (double, triple, three RBI) and Melanie Buck (two RBI) each added two hits for the Skipjacks. Jill Piasecki had a second-inning, RBI double that created a 1-1 tie, went to third on a throw to the plate, and scored the go-ahead run as Buck squeezed her home. Buck completed the three-run rally by eventually scoring on a wild pitch.

Wright led off with a single, stole second, and scored on Morris’ third-inning double, and the Skipjacks made it 6-1 as Morris tripled home two fourth-inning runs. A three-run fifth completed the scoring.
