Johnson sparks Skipjacks in sweep of Allegany
Piasecki runs streak of innings pitched without an earned run to 21

WYE MILLS – Amber Johnson, known much more for her steady outfield defense than her bat, went 4-for-4 and scored three runs with a stolen base Saturday as the Skipjacks won Game 1 in six innings.

"Amber had a great day hitting," said Chesapeake head coach Durrie Hayes, who often uses his designated hitter for Johnson. "She was a real spark for us."

Jordan Wright went 3-for-5, scored two runs and stole a base for the Skipjacks in the opener. Anna Morris went 2-for-4 with two doubles and five RBI, including a three-run double that erased a 3-1 Allegany lead and highlighted a five-run second inning for the Skipjacks. Winning pitcher Jill Piasecki drove in the other two second-inning runs with a double of her own.

Piasecki struck out seven while allowing just two hits and two walks in the six-inning game, running her string of innings without allowing an earned run to 21.

WYE MILLS – Julia Carr went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI, and Lauren Howell was 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs and two RBI as the Skipjacks completed Saturday’s doubleheader sweep.

Melanie Buck was the winning pitcher, allowing four hits and three walks with one strikeout. Jordan Wright allowed one hit in two scoreless innings that included four strikeouts and a walk.

Chesapeake (17-13 overall, 14-4 league) completes the regular season Monday with a doubleheader at Prince George’s Community College. The Skipjacks will host a three-team sub-regional Wednesday afternoon with opponents to be determined.
