Manea scores twice to lead Hagerstown past Skipjacks
Chesapeake loses star midfielder Dajani midway through first half
WYE MILLS Alex Manea scored twice Saturday afternoon while Michael Reyes and Chris Lambert each added a goal and an assist as Hagerstown Community College (4-2-1 overall, 3-1-1 Maryland JuCo) beat a Chesapeake College men’s soccer team that played three-quarters of the game without star midfielder Mohamad Dajani.
"The defense did not play well and our midfield without Mohamad had some problems," said Chesapeake head coach Mike Moulton, who lost Dajani to a hamstring injury midway through the first half. "It was a very, very disappointing loss. We didn’t play well at all. This was by far our worst game."
Mike Turner scored on a first-half loose ball at the end of a corner kick for the Skipjacks (2-2, 2-2), who trailed 3-1 at the break. Luis Ortega tallied on a second-half breakaway for Chesapeake’s other goal.
Kris Potter and Mike Weaver also had goals for Hagerstown.
Hagerstown goalie Brian Kukucka had five saves while Chesapeake’s David Hickman, playing his first full college game, had three saves.
The loss came just two days after the Skipjacks’ emotional 1-0 setback against Community College Baltimore County-Essex. In that game, the perennially powerful Knights needed a second-half goal to get past the Skipjacks.
"We may have had an emotional letdown," acknowledged Moulton.
