Skipjacks win second straight behind Sanders’ 17
Chesapeake College’s men claim third victory in last four games
WYE MILLS Sam Sanders scored a team-high 17 points Monday night as the Chesapeake College men’s basketball team shook off the rust from a long holiday break and defeated the St. Mary’s College junior varsity, 66-63.
"It was a good win," said Chesapeake head coach Reggie Williams, whose Skipjacks (4-6) won for the third time in their last four games. "We kind of struggled with our conditioning, but I was expecting that. It was rocky in the beginning we had been off for three weeks but they pushed themselves in the second half, made some defensive stops and took good shots."
Sanders added nine rebounds, two assists and a steal for the Skipjacks. Justin Mays (13 points, six rebounds, four steals) and Josh Owens (12 points, 10 rebounds) also reached double figures for Chesapeake, which has won three of its last four games.
Rockeem Harris scored seven points and Michael Turner added six for the Skipjacks, who also received four points each from Harrison York and Brennan Miller.
The Skipjacks travel to Cecil College Wednesday night for a Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference contest and host non-league opponent Westchester (N.Y.) Community College Friday in 7 p.m. games.
