Four Skipjacks named to all-academic squad
Wright, Northam, Miller, Karwacki earn Region XX accolades
WYE MILLS Four Chesapeake College student athletes have been named to the 2010 Region XX all-academic team.
Baseball players John Northam, Daniel Miller, and Rob Karwacki, and softball player Jordan Wright were all named to the 2010 squad. Students were required to have a grade-point average of at least 3.6 with 48 credits earned to qualify for selection.
Frank Szymanski, Chesapeake’s baseball coach and athletic director, lauded the students’ commitment to academics.
"To earn a spot on the region’s all-academic team requires a student athlete to be consistent academically for four semesters while maintaining all of their other commitments," said Szymanski. "It’s an impressive feat and they all deserve congratulations for their achievements."
Northam (Colonel Richardson High) is an infielder for the Skipjacks (36-13), who are seeded second in this weekend’s NJCAA Division I Region XX baseball tournament. He has a .288 batting average with 12 runs and seven RBI this season. Miller (Catoctin High) has a 4-3 pitching record with a 4.86 ERA while Karwacki (Sparrows Point High) limited to 4 1/3 innings due to an early season injury is 1-0 with an 8.31 ERA.
