Hawks use four-goal first half to stifle Skipjacks
Chesapeake College’s Pellerin shines in goal in scoreless second half
HAGERSTOWN Zach Morgan scored twice Friday afternoon while Garrett Hajjar and Michael Reyes added goals for the victorious Hawks, with Reyes scoring late in the first half on a penalty kick to give the hosts a 4-0 halftime cushion on the way to their 4-0 victory.
"We made some adjustments at the half that worked in our favor," said first-year Chesapeake head coach Mark Dennis of the scoreless second half. One of the changes was the insertion of John Pellerin into the goal as Pellerin blanked the Hawks over the final 45 minutes.
Hagerstown edged Chesapeake, 9-8, on shots, but owned a huge 8-1 advantage in corner kicks, which set up two Hawk goals.
Chesapeake is off until Saturday, when the Skipjacks host Anne Arundel Community College at noon in their home opener.
