Goldberg, Madison Parks top tennis tourney seeds
North Bayside standouts on display this weekend at Chesapeake College

WYE MILLS – Matthew Goldberg and Madison Parks lead a field of local high school standouts who will be playing in this weekend’s Chesapeake College Junior Tennis Tournament.

Goldberg, who played first singles this past spring for Queen Anne’s County High School and was a first-team all-Mid-Shore selection, is the top seed in the boys’ singles draw. Parks, who went 18-0 at third singles as a freshman at North Caroline High School, is the top seed on the girls’ singles side.

A sister-versus-sister final is possible in girls’ singles if top-seeded Madison Parks and third-seeded Morgan Parks – who went 16-2 at fourth singles for North Caroline last spring – each win both of their Saturday matches.

Meanwhile, Goldberg and Madison Parks have a chance to eventually play each other in the mixed doubles draw. Parks and Cambridge-South Dorchester High’s Arturo Corrales are the top seeds in mixed doubles while Goldberg and Queen Anne’s County High teammate Christy Nave are seeded second. Corrales and Nave played third singles last spring for their respective teams, with Corrales posting a 13-4 record and reaching the District VIII boys’ singles semifinals.

Carson Fulmer, who played second singles for Kent Island High School last spring, is the second seed behind Goldberg in boys’ singles. Nave is seeded second in girls’ singles.

The tournament begins Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. with four girls’ singles quarterfinals, followed at 9:45 a.m. by first-round matches in the boys’ singles competition. The girls’ singles semifinals are at 11 a.m., with a 1 p.m. mixed doubles play-in rounding out Saturday’s action.

The girls’ and boys’ singles finals are slated for 9 a.m. Sunday, followed at 11 a.m. by the mixed doubles semifinals. The tournament concludes with the mixed doubles championship at 1 p.m.
