Skipjacks drop three in straight sets
Montgomery/College Rockville, Hagerstown Community College and CCBC-Essex have a combined league record of 13-2. The injury-riddled Skipjacks played the three Maryland JuCo women’s volleyball powers in succession, losing to all three in straight sets.
The Skipjacks have been dealing with injuries to outside hitter Jackie Buswell and setter Rebecca Wooten. Buswell, the 2009 Mid-Shore Player of the Year while playing at North Caroline High, is out due to a back injury sustained in a car accident and no date has been set for her return.
"Jackie’s still hurt and we just got Becca back," said Skipjacks head coach Jay Covey. "It’s still going to be rough until we get everyone back. I just wish we were healthy because I think we’d be able to compete much more effectively."
The schedule doesn’t get any easier for Chesapeake (0-6 overall, 0-5 league) as the Skipjacks host CCBC-Catonsville (12-5, 4-1) Thursday at 6 p.m.
