Chesapeake men fall as Raiders score 67 second-half points
WYE MILLS Northern Virginia Community College exploded for 67 second-half points Tuesday night to break open a competitive game on the way to a 117-91 men’s basketball win over host Chesapeake College.
Dominique Goodwin led Northern Virginia with 21 points, and teammates Cordero Holt and Jon Gaston added 20 each. Wes Ford (14 points) and Gavin Peterson (10 points) also reached double figures, and George Johnson added nine points.
D.J. Nicholson, coming off a 44-point effort in last Saturday’s 101-97 loss to CCBC-Essex, had a game-high 39 points to lead the Skipjacks (1-2). Nicholson is averaging 32.7 points per game so far this season.
Jimmie Jenkins and Matthew Jackson each scored 15 points for Chesapeake, which trailed only 50-43 at the half.
Northern Virginia still led by just seven points (56-49) before a 12-2 run in which Goodwin and Rich Waldron (six points) evenly split the dozen Raider points.
