Turn to Chesapeake College and prepare for well-paying jobs as a welder, electrician or HVAC technician. Our skilled trades programs have helped hundreds of Eastern Shore residents start and expand their careers in some of today’s most high-demand fields. Starting wages are $10 -$14 per hour for a first-year apprentice.
Electrician’s Training Program, offered on the Wye Mills campus, includes classes such as Electrician’s Core and Electrician’s Basic Training. Offered once per week in the evenings, each session runs from 15-18 weeks. In addition, Chesapeake offers one-day classes for licensed electricians.
HVAC Program, offered off-campus at Colonel Richardson High School in Federalsburg, includes classes such as Basic Electricity, HVAC-R Service and Principles, and Certification Prep and Exam. Successful completion of the program prepares the student for the NATE Core plus Heat Pump and EPA Refrigerant Recovery Tests. Offered twice per week in the evenings, each session runs 15 weeks. Most students complete the eight-course program in two years.
Welding Program, offered on the Wye Mills campus and in Cambridge, includes classes such as Basic Arc Welding, Intermediate Welding, Pipe Welding and Advanced Welding. Offered once per week in the evenings, each session runs for 15 weeks.
Complete the welding program in just 18 months and discover a rewarding career in one of today’s hottest professions. American Welding Society certification tests are offered to students in the advanced class. Most students are prepared for the first AWS exam after three courses.
