Distance Learning
Distance Learning at Chesapeake gives you choices of where and when you take class. Online courses at Chesapeake offer education with no career interruption, no commuting, and no fixed class hours. You can access an online course from anywhere via the internet, while working on weekly assignments at the time of day best for you. Hybrid courses meet half the time in a traditional classroom and half the time online.
Chesapeake's online and hybrid courses:
- Offer the same learning outcomes as their on-campus versions.
- Carry the same credit as on-campus courses.
- Are taught by our experienced, accessible, and caring faculty.
- Meet national standards for instructional quality.
What's it like to learn online? Three or four times a week, you will log in to your course to view content, complete assignments, and interact with your instructor and fellow students. You will engage in a variety of familiar learning activities - reading, writing, discussing, watching, listening, creating projects, and more. Expect to do a bit more reading and writing than in a traditional class. Students in online and hybrid courses report learning as much or more as in a face-to-face classes, while spending about the same amount time. One key to success in an online course is keeping up with assignments. Our online and hybrid courses are NOT self-paced.
At Chesapeake, staff and faculty are committed to helping each student succeed. Many of us have experience juggling coursework with other obligations like work and family. We understand the challenges you face. That's why we offer support through the Online Learning Helpdesk (phone 1-866-789-3228 or email onlinelearning@chesapeake.edu ). The Learning Resource Center provides help with research and writing assignments.
