When do I apply?
Deadline dates are one of the most important things to remember when applying for any type of financial aid because generally all aid applications have a priority deadline date. You must reapply for financial aid every year if you want to be considered for federal, state and institutional aid. Generally students should apply in the January or February prior to the Fall semester beginning in August. If deemed eligible, did you know that even if you pay your college bill in full, you can still apply for financial aid and be reimbursed? See the Financial Aid Office for more details.
Here are a few dates to remember:
- January 1:
- Apply for a PIN number so the federal financial aid form can be completed electronically. Dependent students should have one parent apply for a PIN also at www.pin.ed.gov.
- March 1:
- Deadline to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid in order to be considered for State financial aid. A paper or electronic application (access at www.fafsa.ed.gov) is available. There is only one deadline a year for State aid.
- April 14:
- Deadline to submit the Chesapeake College Scholarship form in order to be considered for institutional scholarships. This application is available online.
- May 1:
- Deadline to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid in order to be considered for federal financial aid for the Fall semester. Students can apply anytime during the academic year, but the earlier the application is received, the more financial aid a student may receive.
Pay close attention to private scholarship deadlines, they vary.
By meeting the March 1st deadline, you will meet both the federal and state deadline for aid. Remember to read the directions completely!
