What funds are available at Chesapeake?

Chesapeake College participates in the following federal financial aid programs: Federal Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), Federal Work-Study Program (FWS), and the Federal Perkins Loan, as well as many Maryland State scholarships and institutional scholarships. We take great pride in keeping our tuition costs low so we do NOT participate in any loan program including the Direct loan program. All financial aid is awarded on a first come, first served basis, as students meet our priority deadline dates, as determined by the date the financial aid file is complete with all documents required and the student is pre-registered for the upcoming term. Awards are generally made for the academic year (Fall and Spring semester) and disbursed on the last day of our stated drop/add period of each term. Students enrolled in a study abroad program, will be given full consideration for aid as students enrolled at Chesapeake College.

A student must have a signed award letter on file for funds to be credited to his/her account. Funds are disbursed electronically and are applied to tuition, fees and book, and any excess funds are refunded to the student by check within the federal regulations guidelines for cash management. A brief description is given for each fund category below:

Grants are financial aid you do not have to pay back, unless student ceases enrollment within a semester. Generally, a student must demonstrate need to be eligible for grants.

Work-Study is a part-time job on/off campus paying bi-weekly based on the number of hours worked. Students are paid minimum wage or higher based on the complexity of the position.

Loans are borrowed money and must be repaid with interest. Repayment generally does not begin until 6 months after a student ceases to be enrolled at least half-time.

Is there any other type of aid I can apply for?
