The Director of Student Life is primarily responsible for developing and implementing extra- and co-curricular programming to complement a diverse student body’s academic experiences and promote lifelong learning. The director also mentors and supervises student volunteers, staff, and club leaders, and s/he works extensively with faculty, staff, and community partners to engage students in campus life. This position requires creativity, excellent communication skills, and diplomacy. The director also serves as the college contact for state and local agencies on issues related to student development, such as drug and alcohol awareness and crime awareness/prevention. Duties: Provide leadership for Student Life in Wye Mills, Cambridge, online, and other locations as needed. Work with Dean of Students and Learning to align services with the College’s strategic and annual plans. Actively partner with other campus departments and external partners to maintain a student-centered, collaborative environment and culture. Supervise full-time, part-time, temporary, and student employees. Recruit, assign work duties, and schedule staff. Train, mentor, and supervise student leaders and mentors (e.g., Action Teams, Student Ambassadors). Conduct employee evaluations, prepare annual personnel and departmental goals, and provide necessary reports to the Dean for Students and Learning. Advise Student Government Association/Student Senate. Plan and conduct annual student elections. Mentor student leaders in effective advocacy and representative college governance. Provide avenues for student participation in college governance and activities. Serve as administrative liaison to student clubs and organizations. Provide orientation for club leaders and club advisors. Serve as cost-center budget manager for student clubs and organizations. Develop, budget, market, provide, and evaluate student mentoring program. Oversee Student Activities. Organize, oversee, and conduct several annual events, including but not limited to an annual campus-wide recognition ceremony, student participation for Advocacy Day. Negotiate with and prepare contracts for a variety of presenters and performers. Oversee fundraising efforts. Oversee the collection and review of data and other evaluative components used in program improvement. Maintain Student Life budgets. Foster environment for collaboration and interaction among students, college employees, college administration, and the community. Participate in professional development, and develop professional development opportunities for students, club advisors, and other groups in support of the mission of Student Life. Develop accurate and timely content for use by the college and department websites, the college catalog, and various marketing venues. Recommend, implement, and maintain technological innovations appropriate to department goals and student needs. Provide leadership in developing, articulating, and reviewing written Student Activities and Student Life policies and procedures. Market campus programming. Serve on college standing and ad hoc committees. Serve as a College contact for state and local government agencies on issues related to programs like alcohol, drug, and safety awareness and prevention. Perform student advising during peak times of the academic year, including participation in ongoing professional development related to advising.
