BUS 101

 

The following outline is provided for the Music research project.

 

HANDOUTS include Database sheet and MLA documentation sheet. 

When teaching the class, you will need to display the following links:

ASSIGNMENT

                  To write a term project in written English, to think critically and analytically

                   while choosing 7 to 12 corporations to discuss. The assignment also includes

                   demonstrating ability to use technology for research as well as EXCEL. A

                   Works Cited page is required.

            

 

OUTCOMES

1.       Students will become acquainted with the LRC building- Library, ASC, and

       computer lab- tour of facilities.

2.       Students will be introduced to services and information sources pertinent to

this assignment.

3.       Students will be introduced to evaluation standards for information

       sources.

4.       Students will  be introduced to MLA format for documentation and

instructed in avoidance of plagiarism.

ACTIVITIES

1.       Tour of building  noting services of Library, ASC, and Computer Lab.

2.       Demonstrate use of LRC page- CLASS SPECIFIC ASSIGNMENTS and links

For BUS 101  ACRL STANDARD 1.1

3.       Demonstrate business databases, Datamonitor, Reuters,  EDGAR,  Business Source Premier, Proquest, Academic Search elite for

information – journal articles, peer-reviewed articles –search for information on corporation, history, competitors, trends in industry that

might affect profits, etc. Try Disney Corporation- current events.

4.       For information necessary  tally  sheet use Yahoo Finance for price quotes

and other sources of online stock quotes.

5.       Discuss using search engines to find information ex. Disney( may have

spoof sites) Discuss criteria of acceptable site.  ACRL STANDARD  2.1-5

6.        Reiterate PLADS evaluation of sources pertinent to all information.  ACRL STANDARD 3.1-4

7.       Introduce MLA format, show location on LRC webpage and demonstrate

       NoodleBib. Encourage use of ASC.

8.       Reminder of definition of plagiarism, when in doubt cite. ACRL STANDARD 5
