PED 103 Outline

I Objectives

  1. To be able to effectively evaluate a Web Site for use in an academic assignment using specific criteria.
  2. To be able to tell the difference between a commercial, educational, and informational site.
  3. To be able to collect information from various Web Sites for use in a publication.
  4. To be able to discern the difference between giving information through a Web Site, Power Point, or brochure.

II. Introduction to evaluating information

   A.  LRC evaluated sites

1. Show LRC home page

2. Go to Sources for assignments, then Resources by Subject

3. Explain that LRC staff has already evaluated these site and they are good sites to use for research.

  B.  How to evaluate a site

1. Explain that the LRC evaluates sites based on Producer, Level, Author,

Date, and Source's overall usefulness.

2. Show Power Point on evaluating sources

3. Hand out brochure on P.L.A.D.S.

4. Talk briefly about the assignment the students will have in which they will have to make a Web Page, PPT, or brochure. Give handouts.

5. Emphasize that all sources must be cited

III. WebQuest

  1. Explain what a WebQuest is.
  2. Show students the WebQuest and explain the WebQuest assignment.
  3. Show charts and explain how to use and submit them.
  4. Show students a Web Site and evaluate it as a class.
