FSC 101

Basic Search Skills

Or

Finding what I need when I need it

As part of your course of study at Chesapeake College you will often be required to select a topic for further research and study or to locate resources such as books, periodicals and videos to supplement your classroom instruction.  In order to prepare you for the world of research, the library staff has developed the following  pre-test, tutorial and post-test.

All FSC students will be required to take the pre-test that includes questions relating to finding information and retrieving information.  If you are successful on the pre-test you will receive a “Certificate of Success” that you will need to print out and submit to your FSC instructor.  For those of you who are not so successful this first time around, we have a tutorial that will explain the right answers and give you practice in searching, locating and retrieving information.  Then you will be asked to do a post-test based on the concepts we hope you have learned through the tutorial.  Again, if you are successful, you will receive a “certificate” to submit to your instructor.

Good luck!  And welcome to the world of research!
