How to Attach your File to a Discussion Posting in WebCT

  • First, write your paper in your word processor and save it. If your instructor has asked you to turn in your documents as Rich Text Format files, please save them in that format. Chesapeake instructors use Microsoft Word. If you use something else, you MUST save your work as as a Rich Text Format file, so it can be read.
  • Go to the discussion topic in WebCT where you want to post a message or a reply. When you click on "Create Message" or "Reply" a box will pop up into which you can type a message. Below that box is a small button carrying the label Add Attachments. Click on that button.
  • Next, a selection box will appear that shows you the contents of your computer. Search for the file you want and click on it. That will insert the name of the file in the selection box. Click on the button labeled "Open."
  • Now you should see the title of your file inserted on the Create Message or Reply pages in WebCT. (It’s actually a link to the file in blue underlined type). It will show up right underneath the Add Attachments button you clicked on earlier. Once you see that, you are ready to post. When you hit the button labeled "Post" your message will be sent with the attachment hooked onto it.
