Chesapeake Child Care Resource Center

BRIEF HISTORY

CCRC logo The Chesapeake Child Care Resource Center is one of 12 child care resource centers in Maryland that make up the Maryland Child Care Resource Network. Funding for the resource centers is through a grant from Maryland Department of Human Resources, who in turn, designated Maryland Committee for Children (MCC) as the Statewide Coordinating Entity. In this role, MCC, coordinates and distributes grant funds and also provides oversite and technical support to individual child care resource centers.

Chesapeake College with the support of government agencies, businesses and individuals representing the five Upper Shore counties of Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne, and Talbot, responded to a Request for Proposal to operate one of the child care resource centers. The College was awarded the grant to do so, and began start-up operations on June 1, 1999.

CORE SERVICE

The focus of the Chesapeake Child Care Resource Center is to foster and provide an array of supports to the local community, and to be a focal point for activities concerning the needs of the child care community and delivery system. Services provided to the Upper Shore Community will include:

  • Helping parents to find and evaluate child care
  • Training for parents and child care professionals
  • Technical assistance to improve and expand child care resources
  • Working with employers on work/family issues
  • Collecting and disseminating data for child care trends and trends analysis

LOCATE is a computerized resource and referral counseling service designed to assist parents in need of child care. Our LOCATE counselor will discuss child care options with the parent based on the age of the child, type, location, hours, and cost of desired care. After receiving this information and providing counseling on the range of child care options available, the counselor searches the database to identify programs/providers which seem to address parental needs as stated. Over the telephone, the counselor provides the name, address, and telephone number of five to 10 child care providers or programs.
