In the Spring of 2009, Chesapeake College launched The Beacon, our college literary journal. As we begin what we hope will become a tradition, we are thrilled to present the college community with a sampling of the talents our students have to offer. The journal will continue to evolve to include not only electronic versions of all the works in our premier edition, but also additional art works as well as music files.

A cycling, running and walking event, Circle the ‘Peake was first held in 2005 to raise money to send our students to national and regional conferences and to honor former PTK president Woody Cannon, who died that year. Our 2008 race saw participation from faculty, staff, administration, students, and community members, including members of Mr. Cannon’s family. Over $1000 was raised and, as a result, two students were able to attend a National Collegiate Honors Council conference in San Antonio Texas.
Funds from our 2009 race enabled one Honors student to attend our National
Conference in Washington D.C. This year’s race will be held on October 2nd.
Please contact the Honors Director if you’d like to participate.
The symposium series: Each semester the Council, in cooperation with PTK sponsors two or more symposia on campus. These events, often attended by local citizens as well as faculty, staff, and students, are a resource for all classes and the entire community.
Premiering in March 2003, the first symposium featured a variety of speakers offering insights into the situation in Iraq, just one week before the war began. Others have covered topics from bird flu to global warming. Please watch for more engaging topics to come!
