Chesapeake College's Midcap to lead state group
Wednesday, July 06, 2005
WYE MILLS-- Dr. Richard Midcap said student learning outcomes assessment will be the focus of his term as chair of the Maryland Community Colleges Vice Presidents and Deans of Students.
When people generally think of assessing learning, they think about what takes place in the classroom,” said Dr. Midcap, who is Chesapeake College’s vice president for student success and enrollment services. “The reality is learning takes place in a number of settings all across campus, including the area of student services.
“We need to be able to assess the learning that takes place everywhere on campus, and that project is going to be our top priority this year,” said Dr. Midcap, who was elected last Friday to chair the statewide student services group for the 2005-2006 academic year.
Dr. Midcap is just the latest in a series of Chesapeake College representatives selected to chair statewide groups.
Margaret Myers, chair of the Chesapeake College Board of Trustees, was recently elected the new president of the Maryland Association of Community Colleges. Vice President for Academic Services Dr. Maurice Hickey, leaving later this month to become president of Clinton (N.Y.) Community College, has chaired several statewide academic-services groups, and Financial Aid Director Mindy Schaffer just completed a term as chair of the state community colleges financial aid directors.
I think all of these selections provide evidence of the high regard in which Chesapeake College is held at the statewide level,” said Dr. Stuart M. Bounds, Chesapeake College’s president and himself a former chair of the state’s community college presidents.
