Chesapeake Launches First "Circle the Peake" Event
Wednesday, October 05, 2005
WYE MILLS Chesapeake College will honor a former honor society president during the first charity bike event "Circle the Peake" on Saturday, Oct. 22 from 9 a.m. to noon. This event is open to the public.
Participants will ride or walk around the main campus during the event at their own pace.
The event was organized to raise money for the Chesapeake College Honors Program. Funds raised will be used to send honors students to the regional and national conferences this year. The event is being held in honor of Woody Cannon, a Chesapeake graduate and former honor society president, who died earlier this year.
"We´ve never been able to send students to the conferences. These conferences are great learning experiences for the students," said Honors Council member Dody Welsh-Parris, who teaches honors English classes at Chesapeake. "We also felt that this would be a fitting tribute to Woody, who was an active student leader on campus."
The entry fee is $20 for a single rider or $75 for a team of four. Chesapeake students qualify for a single rider fee of $15. Registration forms are available
Participants are encouraged to solicit additional sponsorships from friends, relatives or co-workers. Prizes will be awarded to the participants who raise the most money.
