Posted on Friday, April 13, 2007

WYE MILLS – Ramona Quimby, a Theatreworks USA production based on the best-selling books by Beverly Cleary, will play at the Todd Performing Arts Center on Friday, May 4 at 7 p.m.

Hold on to your hats as you follow the latest breathless adventure of the world´s most animated elementary school student. Ramona, the exasperating and lovable third-grader brought to life over the last 40 years in the books of Newbery award-winning writer Beverly Cleary, comes to life in this production.

While intended to tickle the funny bone, the play also incorporates issues that touch on the lives of real families. Ramona´s life is a mess! Her teacher hates her, older sister Beezus is a pain, Aunt Bea may marry a dork and Dad just lost his job. Life is no picnic, and growing up isn´t easy. Audiences laugh and cheer as Ramona faces life´s challenges with the help of her loving and patient family.

Theatreworks USA is America´s largest and most prolific professional not-for-profit theatre for family audiences. Since 1961, Theatreworks has enlightened, entertained and instructed over 68 million people in 49 states and Canada. Theatreworks is one of the most honored theatres of its kind. It is the only children´s theatre to receive both a Drama Desk and a Lucille Lortel award.

This hour-long play is recommended for age 6 and older. Tickets for the show are $8 and will be available at the door. Books by Beverly Cleary will be for sale in the TPAC lobby. These events have been funded in part by Queen Anne´s County Arts Council, Talbot County Arts Council, Caroline County Council of Arts and the Maryland State Arts Council.
