Public Invited to Annual Chesapeake College Open House

Posted on Monday, April 06, 2009

WYE MILLS – Hundreds of area high school students are expected to attend Chesapeake College’s campus-wide open house on Tuesday, April 21. A full slate of activities is scheduled for the event, which will run from 9:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Although the primary audience for this event is the Mid-Shore’s high school student population, community residents of all ages are welcome to attend.

Visitors will participate in breakout sessions on a variety of topics including how to select a college that’s right for the individual, programs and services for first-year college students, and financial aid and scholarships. Information and representatives will be present to share information on Chesapeake’s admissions and registration processes, the Dual Enrollment Program, course offerings for the Summer and Fall 2009 semesters, and transfer programs of study. The Open House line-up also includes student testimonials and an Academic Expo, which will provide attendees with an opportunity to speak with faculty and staff directly about various programs of study and student support services. Chesapeake College’s Dual Enrollment Program, which is a special program that allows high school juniors and seniors, with cumulative GPA’s of 2.5 or higher, to take college courses at discounted tuition, will be marketed to the attendees. Courses taken through this program are transferable to colleges both in-state and out-of-state. Participants will also be given an opportunity to tour the campus.

Attendees who participate in the planned breakout sessions will be entered in a prize drawing. Guests can enjoy lunchtime entertainment from 12:15-1:15p.m.
