College, community to celebrate on December 4
Thursday, September 19, 2013
WYE MILLS - The public is invited to attend a groundbreaking for the Chesapeake College Heath Professions and Athletics Center (HPAC) on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 3 p.m. Former Baltimore Ravens head coach Brian Billick, a supporter of the project, will attend the event.
The groundbreaking will mark the start of pre-construction and infrastructure work on the $37 million project.
While the project is a renovation of an existing building, additional space will be added to the structure. Plans include adding a second floor to the original one-story building. The facility is expected to completed in August of 2015.
The new HPAC will house classrooms, training rooms, health profession labs, the campus fitness, center, a gymnasium, locker rooms and offices.
Baltimore architecture firm Marshall Craft Associates provided the project design. Barton Malow of Baltimore is the general contractor on the project.
"We want to maximize local participation in the project," said Vice President for Administrative Services Tim Jones. "We hope to put as many dollars as we can into the local economy. We’re working with the architects and general contractor to ensure that happens."
Jones said the college will be soliciting bids for subcontract work on the project in the future.
