Senor Sanchez (Erik Murray) tries to woo nurse Miss Dickinson (Erica Tecce) in Cactus Flower opening April 8 in the Todd Performing Arts Center at Chesapeake College.

WYE MILLS – The Peake Players of Chesapeake College continue their season’s salute to the year 1965 with Cactus Flower by Abe Burrows, which opens Friday, April 8 at the Todd Performing Arts Center.

Cactus Flower opened on Broadway in 1965 and featured Lauren Bacall, Barry Nelson, and Brenda Vaccaro in the lead roles. It is best remembered, however, for the 1969 film version featuring Ingrid Bergman, Walter Matthau, and Goldie Hawn.

Cactus Flower is the story of Stephanie Dickinson, a highly efficient and matronly nurse, who manages to wrest the affections of her employer, the dashing and conniving Dr. Julian Winston, from his free-spirited young fiancée, Toni. In the process, the prickly Miss Dickinson, much like the cactus which sits on her desk, unexpectedly blooms into a lovely "flower."

Directed by Anita Livingston, the Peake Players production features Bruce Grove as Dr. Winston, Erica Tecce as Miss Dickinson, and Lauralea DiCamillo as Toni. The cast also includes Matt Grove as Igor, Levi Haddock as Harvey, Erik Murray as Senor Sanchez, Jackie Whittington as Mrs. Durant, Felicia Tuttle as Botticelli’s Springtime, and Les Paternotte and David Hart in several small roles. Holly Baldwin serves as Assistant Director and David Hart as Stage Manager.

Cactus Flower will run from April 8th through 17th, with performances Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m.. General admission is $10 and student/senior admission is $8. Tickets will be available at the door. No reservations are required.

Cactus Flower will be followed by the final Peake Players production of the season, a murder mystery dinner theatre entitled Death Suite, which will run weekends in July. Auditions for the summer murder mystery will be held on April 26th and 27th at 4:00 in the Cadby Theatre on the Chesapeake College campus.
