Welcome, Parents!

Welcome, parents! At Chesapeake, we believe that academic achievement is a family affair. Your positive involvement will increase your son or daughter's chances for academic success. That involvement depends heavily upon a continuing dialogue between you and your student regarding his or her college experience.

Your role in your student's college experience will take a different form than your involvement in their secondary education when you regularly attended meetings, checked grades on the web, and contacted their instructors. In many ways, this involves a shift of your role from "manager" to "consultant," allowing students the opportunity to work out problems for themselves with the reassurance that you as their parent will be available to give advice as needed.

This shift from manager to consultant will help your student develop into an independent learner, including taking responsibility for managing his or her own academic affairs. In keeping with this philosophy, Chesapeake College requires written consent in order to disclose information from the student's education record, including the student's grades, transcripts, billing information, etc. Please contact the Office of Registration and Records in order to determine if your student has authorized education record release to his/her parents. The College Registrar, or his/her designee, is the College official who must verify a student's written consent in on file and authorize release of information.

There are many things you can do to help your student make the most of his or her Chesapeake experience. Important information is contained in all of the links on this page, but we ask you to give special attention to the 10 tips for Chesapeake parents.

Thank you for your commitment to your student's academic success!
