Support Sustainability at Chesapeake - College Sustainability Groups
Sustainability Operations Group (SOG)
Sustainability is one of five core themes in Chesapeake College's new strategic plan. It drives our efforts to support the interconnected environmental, economic, and social needs of our local area and of the broader world. Through sustainability we can meet "the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." (Brundtland Commission, 1989). We provide leadership to the Chesapeake College community in pursuit of sustainability. One aspect of this effort is the development and support of the College's Sustainability Plan.

Our mission is to support and advocate Ecoconsciousness in our college and community. We want to rasie awareness about recycling in our community and collaborate with the public and private schools of the surrounding counties. We want to establish an integrated system among the Eastern Shore to encourage our residents and influence the younger generation to adopt eco-friendly lifestyles or at least recycle.
Campus Arboretum Project
This group is developing and implementing a plan for creating a campus arboretum, to include a trail into the creek, rebuilt bridges, and the analysis and tagging for 150 or so different species of trees on our property. The plan must identify opportunities for significant student involvement.
