Talbot honors Chesapeake for five decades

Chesapeake College is one of eight businesses and organizations recognized for 50 years of service to Talbot County this year. The college, chartered in 1965, was honored recently at the 7th Annual Talbot County Business Appreciation Breakfast.

Hosted by the Talbot County Economic Development Commission and Office of Economic Development, the yearly event featured a video chronicle of each honored organization’s history. Talbot is one of the five Eastern Shore counties that Chesapeake serves with degree programs, workforce training and enrichment opportunities.

Mike Gill, Secretary of the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development, delivered the keynote address. In his speech, Secretary Gill praised Chesapeake’s decades of contributing to the economic development of the region. He added that Chesapeake – and community colleges nationwide – are just now entering an era of substantial growth and importance to the country’s economic health.

Accepting the award for Chesapeake College, was President Barbara A. Viniar, who was joined at the event by Board of Trustees Chair Catherine Poe, Foundation Member Jeannie Haddaway-Riccio, and several college leaders.
