COMMUNITY SPANISH FOR ENGLISH SPEAKERS
This continuing education course is designed for individuals pursuing professional development training for non-Spanish-speaking individuals to enable them to communicate with the Spanish community. Instruction will focus on phonetic encoding to address the most important Spanish commands, questions, and phrases. Topics include pronunciation of words, phrases, and functional language dedicated to community life. Online course via Zoom. Current email, computer, and internet access are required.

THE COMMUNITY INTERPRETER® INTERNATIONAL I
These courses prepare students to facilitate meaningful communication between service providers and Limited English Proficient (LEP) members of the community. Topics include ethics and conduct, terminology, positioning, modes of interpreting, steps for sight translation, intervention strategies, and cultural mediation. Students must register for both CEX 812 & CEX 813. Financial assistance may be available through the Workforce Development Sequence Scholarship. The course will provide the ability to communicate more effectively and to overcome language barriers with these students and their families. Topics include basic conversational phrases, conversing in the classroom, communicating rules and behavior, responding to medical emergencies, greeting parents and visitors, engaging in security measures, and survival phrases for parent-teacher conferences.
