AFFORDABLE:
If college has seemed out of reach in the past, now is the time to take advantage of increased funding streams from the COVID crisis to make it attainable within your budget. Our Financial Aid office is available to help you every step of the way.

High School Grads

Here's how to get started at Chesapeake this Spring:

  1. Browse our Spring Courses: Search in our system for our current offerings. Classes are being offered in a variety of formats to fit your needs. More details are available in the course descriptions at the link above.

  2. Apply Online: Completing our online application is always the first step. Once your application has been submitted, you'll receive an email confirmation with additional details (check in your SPAM folder if you don't see it in your inbox).

  3. Talk to Admissions: Our admissions department can help determine if you need to schedule placement testing, and explain how to submit your high school transcript to the Chesapeake College Registrar.

  4. Register for Courses: Once you're enrolled, contact an Advisor to register for the courses of your choice.

  5. Explore Financial Aid & Scholarships: If you haven’t done so already, please apply for FAFSA. Chesapeake College also has an institutional scholarship you can apply for here: Scholarship Application. Reach out to our Financial Aid office with any questions you may have.

  6. Pay Tuition & Fees: Pay either at the time of registration, or by the due date on your bill. Deferred tuition payment plans are available to students whose bills exceed $100. Learn More.

Continuing Education: Noncredit Courses for Working Adults

Explore our Continuing Education courses online - from CNA to CDLs, HVAC to Veterinary Tech. Classes are starting soon, and with more funding sources than ever to help you cover the costs.

Current College Students

If you are a resident of Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne's, or Talbot counties, you may take courses here at a fraction of the cost of your four-year school.

Enrolling as a visiting student is easy:

  1. Browse our Spring Courses: Search in our system for our current offerings. Classes are being offered in a variety of formats to fit your needs. More details are available in the course descriptions at the link above.

  2. Apply Online: When filling out your application, select "Visiting Student" as your Admissions Status.

  3. Request a Visiting Student Letter: After you submit your application, ask your home college to provide a Visiting Student Letter granting you permission to enroll in a specific course or courses at Chesapeake College. This letter exempts you from the Accuplacer test for the semester in which you are applying and allows you to register for classes.

  4. Contact an Admissions Officer: Reach out to an Academic Advisor or Admissions Officer for detailed registration procedures for visiting students, and to submit your Visiting Student Letter.

  5. Pay Tuition & Fees: Once you register for classes, make sure you pay tuition and fees by the semester payment deadline date to avoid being dropped.

  6. Get Ready to Learn: Check your tech, and make sure you have access to a reliable internet connection. Get your textbooks through the bookstore website www.chesapeake.bncollege.com.

Current High School Students: Dual Enrollment

Ready to get ahead? Enroll in one of our spring Dual Enrollment classes and earn credits to transfer to the college of your choice. Get started by contacting Angela DenHerder at adenherder@chesapeake.edu or your high school guidance counselor.

Credits earned at Chesapeake can transfer directly to public, four-year colleges and universities in Maryland (like Towson, UMD, Salisbury, Bowie, and more). If you're currently enrolled in high school in Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s, or Talbot County as a junior or senior this spring, read on to see the ways that Chesapeake can help you reach your goals faster.

Here's how to get started earning credits this spring:

  1. See if you're eligible to participate: You must be at least 16 years old, have completed your sophomore year of high school with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5, and be enrolled in an eligible high school in our service region. Additional details can be found here.*

  2. Meet with your guidance counselor or other high school official to discuss your interest in the program. With the assistance of the high school official, complete the Dual Enrollment Certification and Grant Form with all of the required signatures.

  3. Submit your college application to the Office of Admissions. You can apply online here.

  4. Work with our Admissions Office if you have questions regarding the Dual Enrollment Grant opportunities.

  5. Get ready to learn: Check your tech, and make sure you have access to a reliable internet connection. Get your textbooks through the bookstore website www.chesapeake.bncollege.com.

Instructional Delivery Methods

Our faculty and staff have been hard at work to ensure that our instructional delivery methods are second to none in the upcoming semester. Below, find a description of each type of course delivery you may encounter as we strive to bring you more options this Spring.

ASYNCHRONOUS courses are offered online only, and can be taken at your convenience, anywhere you have internet access. These courses offer the most flexibility if you work full-time or have a busy schedule. Instructors are available via email, Zoom, and in-course messaging. Students will be expected to meet deadlines for assignments at various points throughout the semester.

Will students be meeting on campus?
No, all classes will be in a virtual environment.

Are there scheduled class meeting times?
No, these classes do not have regularly scheduled dates and times for students to log in. On the first day of the semester, log in to Canvas to access your course and complete your work independently.

How will these classes appear in Student Planning/Self-Service?
Course Type: N1 100% Online
Important Notes: Asynchronous
No specified meeting days or times.

SYNCHRONOUS courses are offered online, at SPECIFIC DAYS and TIMES, anywhere you have internet access. These courses offer increased peer and instructor interaction during the scheduled section. Instructors are available via email, and in-course messaging, ZOOM, and during your course. A reliable internet connection is important for the best experience.

Will students be meeting on campus?
No, all classes will be in a virtual environment.

Are there scheduled class meeting times?
Yes, these classes do have regularly scheduled dates and times for students to log in. On the first day of the semester, log in to Canvas to access your course at the time listed on your schedule.

How will these classes appear in Student Planning/Self-Service?
Course Type: N1 100% Online
Important Notes: Synchronous
Meeting Information: Look for the dates and times of your course in this area.

HYBRID courses offer a mix of online and face-to-face instruction. These courses include traditional face-to-face classroom and online learning activities and participation. Hybrid courses have physical campus locations for the on-campus component; have start and end dates; and have specific meeting days and times.

Will students be meeting on campus?
Yes, some on-campus instruction or activity is mandatory for these courses, in order to meet requirements that can’t be fulfilled remotely.

Are there scheduled class meeting times?
Yes, these classes do have specific meeting days and times where you can expect to come to campus to interact with your instructor and/or other students.

How will these classes appear in Student Planning/Self-Service?
Course Type: HY Hybrid 50% Online 50% Classroom
Meeting Information: Look for the location, dates, and times of your course in this area.

FACE-TO-FACE (FTF), courses are our traditional, in-person classes which take place on-campus, in a classroom with other students and instructors present. Courses listed as Face-to-Face will be offered at the dates, times and locations listed in the course schedule. These courses are appropriate for students who learn best in a classroom setting, and enjoy interacting in-person with their instructors and peers.

Will students be meeting on campus?
Yes.

Are there scheduled class meeting times?
Yes.

How will these classes appear in Student Planning/Self-Service?
Course Type: FTF Face-to-Face
Important Notes: Additional details in this area
Meeting Information: Look for the location, dates, and times of your course in this area.

HY-FLEX courses are a new option. Courses listed as HY-FLEX will be live-streamed when in face-to-face mode. Students in HY-FLEX courses may choose to either attend in-person to participate in the classroom, OR they may stay home and view the live-stream (at the scheduled time) or recording of that day’s class (at a later time). In other words, students can participate in this course face to face, synchronously, or asynchronously, or any combination of the three modalities. This allows students to choose the instructional delivery method that works best for them. These courses are appropriate for students who have the flexibility and comfort level to move between in-person and online learning during a semester. A reliable internet connection is important for the best experience.

Will students be meeting on campus?
It’s up to the student! If a student wishes, they may attend as they would a face-to-face offering on campus – sometimes or always.

Are there scheduled class meeting times?
Yes, these classes do have specific meeting days and times where you can expect to come to campus, or log on to the live-stream if you choose to do so. If you’re unavailable during that time, a recording of the day’s lecture will also be made available for asynchronous access.

How will these classes appear in Student Planning/Self-Service?
Course Type: Flexible
Important Notes: Hy-Flex Course Offering. In person lecture attendance optional.
