Ladson, Williams Named to All-State Squad
Chesapeake College is well-represented on this year’s All-Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference women’s basketball squad.
Freshman Janice Ladson, the Skipjacks’ 5-foot-3 guard, was named to the all-state first team. Fellow guard La’Shyra Williams, the only sophomore on Chesapeake’s squad, earned second-team honors.
Ladson (23.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists) and Williams (23.0 points, 8.1 rebounds, 4.2 assists) are currently second and third, respectively, in the state in scoring while Williams is 16th in rebounding.
“They’ve been phenomenal players for us,” said Chesapeake head coach Gwen Barnes of the pair. “La’Shyra’s doing it all – scoring, rebounding, sharing the ball. In addition to being our leading scorer, Janice is one of our strongest defenders – quick as lightning and an extremely hard worker.
“I can’t say enough about those two,” added Barnes. “They’re just really good team players and have really worked hard to get the team where it needs to be.”
Conference Player of the Year She’cquan Bailey (Baltimore City), Nicole Cunningham (Montgomery), and Harford standouts Mia Fitts and Daisa Harrison joined Ladson on the first team. Harford’s Mike Seney and Baltimore City’s Tara Owens shared the Coach of the Year Award.
