Prepare for a career in the marine service industry. Chesapeake College has partnered with Yamaha and Marine Trades Association of MD (MTAM) to offer a marine service technician program focusing on outboard engine service and repair. Outboards represent the fastest growing segment of the marine industry. The electronic advancements that have led to this growth have also made outboards ever-more complex to service. This program will prepare students for entry level positions as qualified marine service technicians with local/regional dealers, marinas, and repair facilities.
FALL OFFERINGS
Whether you are a boat enthusiast, work in the marine industry, or are ready to begin a new career, our instructors will teach you to install, troubleshoot diagnose, and repair a wide range of marine equipment and systems. Learn in our dedicated marine trades labs with industry experts, then put your skills to work on the water as a Yamaha Certified Technician or Basic Marine Electronics Installer (MEI).
NEW!! Marine Auxiliary Systems
This continuing education course is designed to enable students to gain an understanding of inspections, repairs, and installations for marine auxiliary systems. Topics include hydraulic systems, pumps, hull inspection and repair, electrical systems, and air conditioning and refrigeration. Students must contact the bookstore prior to the start of class to secure course materials. No class 11/26/2020.

Introduction to Marine Engine Systems
This continuing education course is designed to enable the student to gain a basic understanding of marine outboard motors, their operating principles, and the tools used to service and maintain them. No prior technical or mechanical experience is necessary for this course. Topics to be covered include boat control, bracket, electrical systems, fuel systems, ignition, lower unit, lubrication, motor designs, and propellers. Students will take the Certified Yamaha Outboard Technician exam. No class 11/26/2020.
