Peake Players Present “Gypsy”

Peake Players Present “Gypsy”

Burlesque and Vaudeville come to the Shore when the Chesapeake College Peake Players present the beloved musical “Gypsy” April 15 – 17 in the Todd Performing Arts Center. In celebration of Chesapeake College’s 50 years, director Dr. Rob Thompson chose a favorite production from that time period.

“People have always loved Gypsy from the time it opened to now,” Dr. Thompson said. “It’s a rousing musical with familiar songs, high-energy choreography, and this great story about a stage mother and her kids.”

This classic 1959 musical tells the story of Rose, the ultimate stage mother, who sees her daughters through the end of Vaudeville and into the tawdry world of burlesque dance. The show, with music by Jule Styne and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, features a host of well-known musical standards including “Everything’s Coming Up Roses,” “Let Me Entertain You,” and “Rose’s Turn.”

Chesapeake students are building sets designed by Dr. Thompson and TPAC Executive Director Richard Peterson.

The cast includes: Jane Copple as Rose, Lucy Bond as Louise, Megan Murphy as June, William Alderson as Herbie, James Kaplanges as Tulsa,  Tura Olivia Litteral as Tessie, Savannah Verrette as Mazeppa, Samantha McCreay as Electra, Summer Snead as Baby June,  and Lindsay Brooks McCowan as Baby Louise,

Show times are Friday, April 15 and Saturday, April 16 at 7:30 p.m., with a matinee performance on Sunday, April 17 at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $15 adults/$10 students. For tickets, please call the TPAC box office at 410-827-5867.
