Peake Players present John Ford’s ” ‘Pity the Whore”

Renaissance tragedy with a touch of comedy are on tap Nov. 14 – 21

WYE MILLS –  Renaissance tragedy with a touch of comedy are  on  tap Nov. 14 – 21 when the Peake Players present John Ford’s “ ‘Pity the Whore” in the Cadby Theatre at Chesapeake College.

Directed by Robert Thompson, “Pity the Whore” tells the tale of an incestuous love between Giovanni and his sister Annabella that ends in disaster and death. Set in Parma, Italy, the story takes place against a background of lust, vengeance, and greed. Giovanni’s tutor, the Friar, attempts to sway him from his sinful relationship with his sister, but his love turns violent when Annabella discovers that she is pregnant and marries the double-dealing and philandering Soranzo.

Show times on November 14, 15, and 21  are 8 p.m. The performance on Thursday, Nov. 20 will be at 4:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for students.
