Posting a Win

Vice President of Student Success and Enrollment Services Kamari Collins presents Sunshine Simons of Cordova with her prize of a free semester. As the winner of the What’s Next social media contest, Sunshine received a scholarship to cover her Spring 2024 tuition bill.

Sunshine, 23 and a graduate of North Caroline County High School, begins the new semester with one less worry.

“I have a mortgage and a car payment, so paying for classes is always a challenge,” she said. “Having my tuition covered for Spring semester takes a huge worry off my mind. I’m happy I entered the contest and so grateful to win.”

As part of Chesapeake’s new brand roll out, fall semester students were given new logo tee shirts and asked to post photos of themselves wearing the shirts. Those who posted and tagged Chesapeake, were entered into a random drawing for the prize.

“I’m so glad I posted,” she said. “Winning was incredible luck and a great way to start 2024.”

A student on the Fall 2023 Dean’s List, Sunshine is a Radiologic Sciences major and hopes to be an MRI technician. In addition to managing her schoolwork, Sunshine also operates her own notary loan signing business and has a part-time restaurant job.
