Chesapeake students participate in statewide advocacy
ANNAPOLIS – Chesapeake College students joined community college students from across the state to advocate for two-year colleges during the 2023 General Assembly Session.
Student Advocacy Day draws students and administrators from Maryland’s 16 community colleges together with state elected officials, to spotlight the students impacted by legislative budgetary decisions and to highlight the colleges’ collective legislative goals.
The Chesapeake College student participants were Ruby Duval, Brionna MacCubbin, Annastasia Miller, Cianni Phillips, Mikaela Seltzer, and Ann Seymour.
The Maryland Association of Community Colleges (MACC) hosted its virtual event on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2023. Guest speakers included Gov. Wes Moore’s Deputy Legislative Officer Brad Fallon, Maryland Senator Sarah K. Elfreth and Maryland Delegate Stephanie Smith. Two student speakers, Kyleen Brown from Baltimore City Community College, and Jefferson Vasquez-Reyes from Montgomery College also shared their community college experiences with the assembled participants.
