Demonstrating persistence, determination, and grit

Over 20 months ago, the COVID-19 pandemic brought an unanticipated shift to virtual learning—nearly overnight. This abrupt change was incredibly difficult for many of our students. Reliable internet access is a hurdle in our region, and most of our students learn best when taught face-to-face. In addition, students took on more responsibilities at home, whether helping their children (or younger siblings) who were also learning virtually or picking up extra shifts at work to assist with household expenses.

Supporting our Students Through Scholarships

Friend of Chesapeake, John DeLuca of Easton, launched the TREES (Training Recruitment Education and Employment) Scholarship Fund this year to help build the pool of compassionate and skilled nursing assistants in the area.

Local McDonalds Creates Community Opportunity

The Meoli Companies and local McDonald's Owner/Operator, Mike Meoli, recently established a $10,000 endowed scholarship for non-traditional students at Chesapeake College.

Designed to aid adult students who work full time, the scholarship will allow students to advance in their jobs, train for a new career and fulfill their dreams. Most non-traditional students juggle school in addition to work and family responsibilities. They often face significant financial barriers to education. This endowment is designed to ease the financial strain of education.

TRiO Student Support Services Awarded 5-year STEM Grant

Chesapeake College received a five-year TRiO Student Support Services-STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) federal grant to provide a full range of college success supports to disadvantaged students. We have been funded in the amount of $220,000 per year to serve 120 students each academic year.
