Dr. Eleanor Welsh, dean of liberal arts and sciences, said students are limited to one class in order to help ensure student success in the highly compressed time frame.
“We would prefer students to do well in one course rather than spreading themselves too thin,” said Dr. Welsh.
“We think there are several groups of students who will find this format attractive,” said Dr. Richard Midcap, Chesapeake’s interim vice president for academic affairs. “Many of our own students have expressed the desire to either catch up on a course they missed or get ahead in their academic program. We also have students from this area who attend other colleges who have told us they would like to pick up a course during their break. These classes serve both audiences.”
Dr. Welsh said the college matched faculty members experienced in online instruction with courses featuring broad appeal.
“We’re confident students taking our winterim courses will have a high-quality experience,” said Dr. Welsh.
