WYE MILLS – Chesapeake College’s annual Veterans Day observance, sponsored by the Kent Island Chick-fil-A,  will be a student-centered event.

Marine Corp veteran Olsen Dorce, the president of Chesapeake College’s Phi Theta Kappa honor society, will be the featured speaker at the November 10th event, which takes place at 11 a.m. in the Caroline College Center.  Fellow Chesapeake College student Robert Branning will sing the National Anthem while some of the youngest students on campus – from the Early Childhood Development Center – will also be featured singers.

Army veteran and Chesapeake graduate Geraldine Caraballo will perform “Taps” as part of the program.

“We want this event to have a strong student component,” said Dr. Barbara Viniar, Chesapeake College’s president.  “In addition to honoring student veterans, we will be recognizing faculty and staff who are military veterans.  We are grateful to all of our veterans for their service to our country.”

The public is invited and encouraged to attend this event, according to Dr. Viniar, which includes a lunch for attending veterans provided by Chick-fil-A of Kent Island.

Several branches of the armed forces will have representatives at the event to answer questions about military service.  Mike Neil, a veterans representative for the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation’s Division of Workforce Development and Adult Learning, will also be on hand to meet with veterans.

In addition, Royce Ball will be in attendance representing the Mid-Shore Recovering Veterans Group, and George Jackson will once again be offering the public a chance to sign scrolls that will be sent to service members currently deployed overseas.
